I have heard many a quote by Mark Twain without knowing that it was his and thought "I like that !" Whether because it rang true, or provoked thought or was just witty, you could tell that it was from someone who was a thinker, and an observer of men and their behaviour. Perhaps I would like to see just a little bit of myself in him in that he defied convention and questioned commonly held opinions. It is certainly the case that he was a remarkable man and I record here some interesting facts about his life and works, together with some of his delightful quotations.

Mark Twain was the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was an American writer and humorist, whose best work is characterized by broad, often irreverent humor or biting social satire. Twain's writing is also known for realism of place and language, memorable characters, and hatred of hypocrisy and oppression.
